Democrat Marcy Kaptur won election Wednesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, defeating Republican Derek Merrin. Kaptur has long been targeted for defeat by Republicans, but she will now extend her tenure as the longest serving woman in the House. She begins her 23rd term in January. Merrin is a real estate investor and former four-term state representative who sought a rematch with Kaptur after a narrow loss two years ago. The Associated Press declared Kaptur the winner at 2:53 a.m. EST.
