Klopp drops Adeyemi and Woltemade and picks 17-year-old Mohya in Germany squad

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Jürgen Klopp sprang a surprise by dropping Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi and Juventus forward Nick Woltemade from his latest Germany squad while handing a first callup to 17-year-old Wael Mohya on Thursday.

Klopp slimmed his vast squad from his first Nations League games in September and October and put his faith in young players.

Klopp didn’t immediately explain why he dropped Adeyemi, who has four goals and three assists in 14 games since joining Barcelona, but said “the more quality you have (available), the harder, in a positive sense, the decisions you have to take become.”

Germany plays Serbia in the Nations League on Nov. 13 and the Netherlands three days later, looking to improve on mixed form. Klopp’s first four games in charge yielded only one win.

Besides the teenage attacking midfielder Mohya from Bundesliga struggler Borussia Moenchengladbach, Klopp is set to put his trust in other youngsters like Bayern Munich midfielders Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof, and speedy Cologne winger Said El Mala.

In place of Woltemade, the 33-year-old Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug is recalled for the first time in 17 months. His nine goals from seven games make him the Bundesliga top scorer.
