New wildfire starts southeast of Merritt

B.C. Wildfire crews are dealing with a new wildfire that started southeast of Merritt.

B.C. Wildfire Service information officer Taylor MacDonald said today, July 16, the fire is roughly four kilometres west of Highway 5 and nine km south of the Okanagan Connector.

The fire is estimated to be 15 hectares in size.

The Bluey Lake wildfire is more than 30 km away from Merritt, she said.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and it was discovered July 15.
