Kingston, Ont., girl home after liver transplant, twin sister still waiting for donor

KINGSTON, Ont. – A three-year-old Kingston, Ont., girl is back home after receiving part of her father's liver in a transplant surgery, while her twin sister is still waiting for a donor to be found.

The girls' father, Michael Wagner, says Phuoc left the Toronto General Hospital on Friday — about a month after the surgery — and is back home playing with her family like a healthy little girl.

The twin girls suffer from Alagille syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects vital organs and can be fatal.

Wagner says Phuoc's twin sister, Binh, is still waiting for a donor, but the family is confident a match will be found soon.

Wagner says the team running the liver transplant program at the Toronto General Hospital hasn't told them much about the potential second donor because of privacy rules.

Life for the Wagners, who have nine children, goes on and they were filling out school applications for the twins who are set to start kindergarten in the fall.
