
Evacuation alerts fully rescinded as Embleton Mountain wildfire held at 991 hectares
The remaining evacuation alerts of been rescinded from the Heffley Creek area as the Embleton Mountain wildfire is now being held by the B.C. Wildfire Service.
After the wildfire was first discovered on July 9, it eventually prompted the Thompson Nicola Regional District to issue an evacuation order for at least 139 properties in the Whitecroft area, but those orders were downgraded to an alert on July 22.
The regional district also issued evacuation alerts to at least 148 other properties, while the community of Sun Peaks was also under alert, but those were also rescinded on July 22.
The Embleton Mountain wildfire is currently estimated to cover 991 hectares, and it is expected to remain that size while firefighters continue to monitor perimeters and douse any hot spots that arise.
