Man carrying imitation handgun, drugs arrested in Kamloops

Members of the Kamloops RCMP Targeted Enforcement Unit arrested a man carrying what appeared to be an imitation firearm on the weekend but upon further inspection discovered it was a BB gun.

Suspected illegal drugs, packaging and paraphernalia associated to drug trafficking were also seized during the arrest, according to a Kamloops RCMP media release.

The officers were conducting foot patrols near Battle Street and 10 Avenue at around 3:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, when they observed the man, well known to police, who appeared to have a firearm in his waistband.

“When police tried to arrest the man, a struggle occurred, and what appeared to be a gun fell to the ground,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

The items were seized and the man was released, pending the investigation’s completion and subsequent charge recommendation and assessment process.
