Interior Health averaged close to 250 new COVID-19 cases a day over weekend

There were 1,434 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C. over the weekend. Once again, the Interior Health region accounted for more than half at 734, which is an average of 244.7 per day.

Provincewide, there were 532 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 441 from Saturday to Sunday and 461 in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health news release issued today, Aug. 16, did not break down the regional numbers by day.

Over the weekend, there were 316 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 198 in Vancouver Coastal, 112 on Vancouver Island and 74 in the Northern Health region.

Of 5,090 active cases in the province, 2,982 are in the Interior Health region.

There are now 104 B.C. residents in hospital with 47 of them in intensive care.

One new death was reported by Fraser Health, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,780.

The provincial vaccination rate for those over the age of 12 is now at 83.5 per cent, with 74.6 per cent having received their second dose.
