Vernon RCMP nab fleeing break-in suspects spotted on surveillance

Two Vernon residents were caught by police this past weekend after they were spotted on a video surveillance system looking like they were up to no good.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, Aug 21, a security employee who was watching a live video feed spotted two people entering the fenced perimeter of a commercial business with what appeared to be a pair of bolt cutters in their hands in the 4500 block of 27 Street in Vernon, according to an RCMP press release.

The security guard called the police and continued to provide details of the suspects.

Police were able to safely arrest a 31-year old man and 27-year old woman, both from Vernon, without incident.

“We want the public to report suspicious activity immediately and directly to the police,” Vernon North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. “Having this information quickly allows us to prevent or interrupt criminal activity in our community and increases our ability to apprehend those responsible for these crimes.”

Both suspects have been released and will appear in court. The incident is still under investigation.
