Passenger of an impaired driver in Kamloops was found with a loaded firearm, drugs and cash

The passenger of an impaired driver has been arrested after being caught in Kamloops with a loaded firearm, drugs and cash.

A Kamloops RCMP officer stopped an SUV that was committing traffic violations at 8 Avenue and Seymour Street around 2:54 a.m. Sept. 8, police said in a news release.

The driver failed roadside breath tests and received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

While the passenger, a woman, was preparing to leave the vehicle, police observed a large amount of cash as well as weapons, ammunition, and paraphernalia associated to the illegal drug trade. A loaded firearm and suspected drugs were also seized as part of the investigation.

The woman was arrested and remains in custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Charges are pending its conclusion and any subsequent charge assessment.
