Traps taken down, no cougar seen in Kelowna following attempted attack on dogs
Kelowna Conservation Officers have taken down live traps in Kelowna after no new sightings were reported of a cougar in the city.
Last week, traps were set up in the Rutland area after the wildcat attempted to attack dogs.
The cougar was sighted several times in the Dilworth Mountain, Mill Creek, Leathead Road and Houghton Road areas but since Oct. 31, no new sightings have been reported in the Rutland area, said Conservation Officer Ken Owens, via email.

"People are still reminded to take precautions to protect pets and be aware of cougar safety guidelines," he said.
Cougars may attack domestic animals and pets similar in shape, size and smell to wild prey. Cougar that have learned to hunt pets near residences can threaten the safety of other pets in the neighborhood, Owens said in a previous press release.
