West Kelowna schools have the most COVID-19 exposures in Interior Health

Three of the four ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks at schools within Interior Health are in the Okanagan.

Most recently, Mar Jok Elementary in West Kelowna reported an outbreak on Nov. 9, according to Interior Health's list of school exposures.

Two other Okanagan outbreaks were both declared on Nov. 4 – at King's Christian School in Salmon Arm and at Vernon Christian School. The fourth outbreak was in the Shuswap, declared Nov. 5 in Tappen at the Millar College of the Bible.

As for COVID-19 exposures within Interior Health public schools, there were 55 reported between Nov. 1 to 5.

West Kelowna leads the health authority in schools with potential exposures at eight schools. Elsewhere in School District 23, four schools in Kelowna and Peachland Elementary also experienced exposures.

Within School District 22, there are three schools in Lumby, two in Vernon and two in Coldstream on the exposure list.

In School District 83 potential exposures occurred at three public schools in Salmon Arm, two in Armstrong, two in Enderby, and one each in Tappen and in Sicamous.

Nakusp Secondary School is the only school with a potential exposure in School District 10.

Dr. D. A. Perley Elementary in Grand Forks is the only school on the list in school district 51, while Nicola Canford Elementary in Merritt is the only school listed from school district 58.

In school district 67, there is one school in Penticton and two in Summerland on the exposure list.

Within school district 73 there were potential exposure events at four Kamloops schools and one in Clearwater.

Exposure notifications are posted after a faculty member or student went to school with COVID-19 and possibly exposed others to COVID-19. Schools remain on the list for two weeks after an exposure event.
