Bylaw officers “herd” geese out of downtown Vernon
It's not in their job description, but City of Vernon Bylaw Officers Russ Lutsenko and Lee Elliott had an opportunity to be Goose Whisperers last week when a pair of geese and their newly hatched chicks were discovered on 30 Ave. in the downtown core.
The city's communications officer Courtenay Pitcher says the two officers herded the geese and their goslings along the sidewalk all the way to Polson Park, where they crossed the street in the crosswalk with all of the vehicles stopping to allow the procession to pass.
Many people opened their windows to thank the officers for their assistance in ensuring the safety of the new family.
"The officers last saw the family of geese heading across the grass of Polson Park towards the pond, hopefully to find a new home," Pitcher says.
