You won’t believe this photo from former Rocket Mitchell Callahan

GRAND RAPIDS, Iowa – A gruesome selfie from former Kelowna Rocket Mitch Callahan was posted to Twitter after he took a puck to the mouth during an AHL game last night.

Callahan, a centre with the Grand Rapids Griffins, was positioned in front of the Iowa Wild’s net during his team's 6-1 victory game when he was hit by friendly fire. A slapshot by the teammate was taken from the blueline and hit him in the face. With blood pouring from his mouth, 22-year-old Callahan was helped off the ice while team-mates tried to collect several lost teeth.

The Whittier, California native is fresh off his NHL debut with the Red Wings. While playing right wing for the Rockets from 2008-11, he registered 57 goals, 128 points and 440 penalty minutes in 204 games played. The team earned the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his debut season, and during the 2010-11 season, Callahan was named WHL player of the week ending November 6, recording five goals and seven assists in four games. 

He was signed to the Detroit Red Wings, May 4, 2010 and made his AHL debut as right wing with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Oct. 8, 2011.
