Pregnant Global TV meteorologist deals with the haters
If you watch any of the Global B.C. channels, you’ll have seen the Vancouver-based newscast featuring meteorologist Kristi Gordon.
Gordon and her fellow anchors Robin Stickley and Squire Barnes did a segment on Thursday, March 27 to discuss the hate she has been getting online for, well, being pregnant and on TV.
Gordon read some of the comments on News Hour Plus and went on to discuss the issue with her two coworkers. You can check out the video below.
When Gordon revealed to the audience in January she was expecting her second child she said she was nervous.
“I thought it would only be a matter of time before the negative emails would start coming in,” Gordon says in an open letter posted to the TV station’s website. “Last time when I was pregnant and slowly growing, I received emails telling me to ‘cover up’, ‘be more professional’, ‘not wear horizontal stripes’, and how irresponsible I was to be wearing high heels.”
Gordon goes on to say negative comments are “just part of the gig” and you have to “shrug it off and move on otherwise you’ll never survive.”
Here are a couple of the comments she read on the air:
“Buy some decent clothes and have more respect for the unborn child, you’re not the first pregnant woman. OMG.”
“Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you. Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and rear end a brick s**t house. We now turn off Global. Cover up or take time off.”
Gordon also points out men on TV are not scrutinized in the same way.

Kristi, as I said to my husband, you look absolutely wonderful. Pregnancy makes you glow and more beautiful. Pregnancy is nothing to be ashamed of and there is no need to hide it. I cannot understand the ignorance of those who have made those comments.
Sometimes wonder where these idiots think Babies come from.. Being pregnant and working is really hard and I would like to see just one man go thru it. There are also woman who think you should hide and not take pictures while pregnant.. One I know had9 kids so maybe sh have come out of hiding and not criticized all her daughter in lawswho tried to keep things going while pregnant..
I think you look great. There is nothing more beautiful that an expecting mommy and I think you are very stylish and have great taste.

Anyone who thinks that a woman growing a baby looks “gross” or “unprofessional” is obviously dealing with some issues of their own.

I think that before people post to social media, or send an email they need stop take a few minutes and think about the following:1. How would they feel if what they are about to say was said to them 2. Would they say this to the person if they were face to face 3. Is what they are saying constructive or destructive4. Are you prepared to possibly be held accountable in a court of law for what you say. if people took a step back and thought about these questions before hitting send or post, maybe there would be fewer cruel, thoughtless bullying opinions put out on social media.
why not let us know who says the bad things they are not perfect people either the pregnancy is beautiful just keep doing what your doing other people are jealous so they look for things they don’t have then pick on people who have them.

Hey Kristi this whole thing is so silly. Does the writer really think that wearing looser clothing will hide your pregnancy. I wonder where this person thinks that baby will disappear to. Enjoy your time and share your baby bump with those of us who are watching and waiting for your baby to be born. I’m loving it and at the beginning I have to say that my son and I had a bit of an argument, he didn’t think you were but as a mother I could tell you were expecting again.We followed your first and we feel privileged to follow along with #2. Haters gotta hate, but lovers gotta love.

I don’t understand how anyone could find a visibly pregnant woman distasteful. I also don’t understand why anyone would take time out of their day to send a message to tell someone that they don’t like the way they look or dress. If you don’t like….so what?

Well personally I think Kristi Gordon is great she is a professional and does her job very well. And people who are being so rude what is your problem are we living in the stone ages and need to hide pregnancy. Kristi is a very classy lady.

I cannot believe that people would say anything negative about Kristi Gordon and how she looks! She looks beautiful pregnant and is such a graceful and lovely person! I find this hard to swallow that people could be so shallow!
