Man injured, dies of wounds in Vernon shooting

A 38-year-old man has died after he was shot Friday night in Vernon.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residential building in the 5300-block of 25th Avenue, shortly after 6 p.m., June 3, according to a press release from the RCMP.

Police officers found a 38-year old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit has control of the investigation and the area will remain cordoned off as officers conduct their examination of the scene, according to the RCMP.

"Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest this to be a targeted incident," said inspector Blake MacLeod, operations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, in the press release.

"The man is known to police and we do not believe the safety of the public is at risk."

Police are interested in speaking with any witnesses of the incident and is asking anyone who may have dash cam footage or surveillance footage in the area to contact police directly and immediately at 250-545-7171.
