Shoplifter threatened Vernon store staff with knife: Police

A 42-year-old man has been arrested after he threatened staff with a knife while shoplifting.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release the man tried to leave a business in the 5600-block of 27 Street with unpaid merchandise at around 12:15 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 29.

Police didn't identify the store, but said a staff member stopped the man, who then produced a knife. The robber then fled on a bicycle.

Police say staff followed the man at a safe distance and relayed the information to police.

The 42-year-old was then arrested.

Vernon RCMP said Craig Alan Leamon has been charged with robbery and resisting arrest and is due in court later today.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
