Car crash knocks out power in parts of Coldstream and Vernon

VERNON – The power is still out for almost 900 homes in Coldstream after a power pole was knocked down in a car crash just after midnight.

RCMP say the car left Kalamalka Lake Road and severed the power pole knocking out electricy to a large chunk of Coldstream and Vernon.

The woman behind the wheel was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries. Police are investigating.

Kalamalka Lake Road between Postill Drive and Kidston Road remained closed this morning, April 11, as B.C. Hydro crews worked to repair the pole and electrical equipment.

Power was originally out for over 1,800 homes following the crash, but has since been restored to about half.

B.C. Hydro estimates power will be back on by 10 a.m. for its customers west of Howe Drive, north of Cosens Bay Road, south of Middleton Way and east of Westkal Road.
Once crews have finished the repairs, the road will reopen to traffic.
