B.C. nurse suspended for lack of compassion with grieving family

A Burnaby nurse has been suspended for two days after she showed poor compassion when dealing with a family whose loved one had just died.

According to a Dec. 14, B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, registered nurse Heather Bertram was working in Burnaby when the incident took place in April.

The nursing regulator is very vague on what took place and only says that Bertram "lacked compassion" and "undermined" the family's ability to support the death of their loved one.

Bertram agreed to a two-day suspension of her nursing licence and will have to take a consultation program to address the issues raised.

The nursing regulator says is satisfied that the terms will protect the public. No other details are given in the decision.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
