Molotov cocktail fires under investigation

KAMLOOPS – A rude awakening for the people living in 2 houses hit by molotov cocktails early Saturday morning.

Acting assistant chief Jeff Bell with Kamloops Fire Rescue says crews were called to a home at 2170 Westsyde Road at 1:17 a.m. By they time firefighters arrived the person living in the home had the fire out.

Bell says a window was broken and the outside wall was scorched but the fire didn’t make it inside.

The second call came about 4 hours later at 5:12 a.m.

Bell says again the firefighters were headed to a report of a structure fire, this time at 1048 Kemano Street on the North Shore.

“It was a non-event. The bottle was thrown against a stucco wall. There was some scorching and the cover on a BBQ was burnt.”

Because the fires are obviously suspicious in nature, the RCMP were notified.

The police are following up on some leads and have identified persons of interest who they are planning to interview, according to a CFJC report.

It’s not known if the fires are connected.

No one was hurt in either incident.
