Regional transit projects improve safety and access in Westside-Kelowna

KELOWNA – Kelowna transit stops and improvements on Highway 97 improve safety and access thanks to a $192,134 investment, Premier Christy Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna announced today.

“When the RapidBus project is complete, Highway 97 will be ready for both commuters and pedestrians. As West Kelowna and Kelowna grow, we’re making sure services and infrastructure keep pace with increasing demand,” Premier Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna said

One project called for a transit shelter and the extension of a retaining wall and railings on Highway 97, near Commonwealth Road, for a cost of $58,069. The second project was to install pedestrian countdown timers at 17 intersections along the RapidBus route on Highway 97 at a cost of $134,065.

In 2013/2014 nearly $1 million was provided for new transit projects to improve access and increase safety for families and transit users in communities across British Columbia.

Over the past seven years, our government has delivered $4.5 million in projects through the regional transit improvement program.
