Woman charged in connection with Vernon ATM theft

VERNON – She was caught on camera allegedly stealing cash out of someone else’s bank account, and now six months later, she’s been caught by authorities.

Glenda Joan Daku, 53, from the North Okanagan has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 in connection with the October 2014 offence, which was recorded on the Bank of Montreal’s video surveillance system.

Still shots taken from the video and released by police in January 2015 show the woman parked at the bank’s drive through ATM. 

The owner of the card had apparently forgotten it in the ATM after making a cash withdrawal. When the owner returned to get it, the card was gone. Not only that, but when they went inside the bank to speak with the teller, they found out cash had been taken from their account, police said in a January 2015 media release.

A number of tips came in from the public and were instrumental in advancing the investigation, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says. 

Daku’s next appearance in Vernon Provincial Court is set for April 30.
