TORONTO – Cleveland Indians pitcher Corey Kluber has been named to the American League all-star team to replace injured Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada.
Kansas City manager Ned Yost, who is managing the AL all-star team, made the announcement Tuesday.
Kluber is 8-8 with a 3.79 earned-run average, striking out 114 batters over 114.0 innings. He joins teammates Danny Salazar and Francisco Lindor in representing the AL Central-leading Indians on the AL all-star roster.
Estrada, who is 5-3 with a 2.93 earned-run average in 16 starts, was placed on the 15-day disabled list of a sore lower back on Wednesday.
He still intends to travel to San Diego and participate in all-star festivities.
“My worst nightmare came true, unfortunately,” Estrada said Wednesday. “In the long run, this is the right thing to do.”
