Berlin police are seeking witnesses to a brazen daylight killing in the heart of the German capital that may have had ties to Russian intelligence.
Police published Tuesday a photo of a 48-year-old Russian man arrested shortly after the fatal shooting of a Georgian national on Aug. 23.
They called for anyone who saw the man in the days before the killing, knows where he stayed or knows him personally to come forward. They also published photos of a bicycle and an electric scooter the suspect used.
German weekly Der Spiegel and investigative website Bellingcat reported last week that the suspect’s passport indicated ties to Russian intelligence. Russia has denied involvement.
The German government says it’s a case for local authorities but there’s a “great interest in a comprehensive investigation.”
