Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco leaves game against Red Bulls with injury

HARRISON, N.J. – Sebastian Giovinco left Toronto FC’s game on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls with an adductor injury.

The Italian forward left the match in the 22nd minute and was replaced by Ashtone Morgan.

Toronto head coach Greg Vanney downplayed the injury after the game, which the Reds lost 3-0, saying it didn’t look significant.

Will Johnson took the captain’s armband in Giovinco’s place.

Giovinco, who was Major League Soccer’s most valuable player last season, had one shot prior to exiting the game and one foul. TFC was trailing 1-0 at the time of his injury.

Giovinco, nicknamed the Atomic Ant, has eight goals and five assists in 12 games this season for Toronto.
