Follow the steps of Abraham Lincoln’s courtship of Mary Todd

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – This is for anyone who wants to know about the days when the Great Emancipator was the Great Romancer.

In a news release, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is offering walking tours in the downtown area to spots where Lincoln and his Mary Todd Lincoln met, broke up, reunited, married, and lived before they moved to the White House.

The free “Abe and Mary: Quite Contrary” tours will be held every Tuesday in June, July and August. Guides will take visitors past spots associated with the couple and explain the unlikely romance between a young lawyer and the Southern belle who would become his wife.

The tours are pretty popular so anyone interested is advised to make advanced reservations by visiting www.presidentlincoln.illinois.gov .
