RIO DE JANEIRO – The first major poll on Brazil’s acting President Michel Temer indicates that only 13 per cent of Brazilians approve of his administration.

The Ibope polling firm also said on Friday that 39 per cent think Temer’s performance has been either bad or very bad. Another 36 per cent consider his performance average.

Temer took over in May after President Dilma Rousseff was suspended pending an impeachment trial.

The trial that could make Temer president until 2018 is expected to continue until late August.

It could be worse: The previous Ibope poll in March found that Rousseff was approved by only 10 per cent.

Forty-four per cent of Brazilians said there is no difference between Temer’s administration and Rousseff’s.

Ibope interviewed 2,002 voters in 141 cities. The margin of error is 2 percentage points.
