CALGARY – Larson Sundown had a goal and four assists to lead the Coquitlam Adanacs to a 11-9 win over the Brampton Excelsiors in the opener of the Minto Cup final on Tuesday.
Chase Scanlan and Colin Munro both had a pair of goals for Coquitlam, the B.C. representative, as they took game 1 of the best-of-five series for the Canadian junior-A lacrosse championship. Scanlan had two assists and Munro had one.
Dennon Armstrong (a goal and an assist), Ethan Ticehurst (a goal and an assist), William Clayton, Reid Bowering (a goal and an assist), John Hofseth (a goal and two assists) and Dylan Foulds added singles for the Adanacs.
Clarke Petterson paced the Excelsiors, the Ontario champions, with two goals and five assists, while Jeffrey Teat had a hat trick and two assists.
Brenden Welsh (a goal and two assists), Justin Sykes (a goal and an assist), Tyler McKay (a goal and an assist) and Jake Boudreau (a goal and two assists) also found the back of the net.
Christian Del Bianco made 37 saves for the win, while Steven Orleman stopped 43 shots in the loss.
Coquitlam was 1 for 7 on the power play and Brampton was 1 for 3.
The two teams will face off for Game 2 on Wednesday.
