Crews respond to lightning-caused fire near Fintry
VERNON – Efforts are underway to extinguish a fire sparked by lightning in the Fintry area Friday afternoon.
Fire information officer Kayla Pepper says a three person attack crew and an air tanker were deployed to the area around 2:30 p.m. The Wildfire Management branch is standing by in case further resources are required. The blaze is an estimated 0.1 hectares and burning in timber.
“The fire activity is fairly minimal and not affecting public safety,” Pepper says.
The fire is located west of Westside Road, near Attenborough Creek and the North Westside fire department is also responding.
The air tanker was sent because of access challenges for the ground crew. Firefighters are currently seeking a route into the fire.
Pepper says there aren’t any structures in the vicinity.
