Hit and run trial delayed one day: lawyer “tired”
The trial of Chase Donaldson had an unanticipated delay Thursday when court shut down, in part because the defence counsel in the case was "tired."
The trial of Chase Donaldson, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident, closed early Wednesday afternoon and will not resume until Friday at 9 a.m.
Supreme Court judge Frank Cole granted the delay in part because of a request by defense lawyer Paul Danyliu, who said he was "tired" and could use a day. He got his wish after technical legal arguments arose over whether the Crown could show a video recording of Donaldson's brother in law, Nick Hline, giving his statement the day after the incident.
Hline is the Crown's last witness.
Since the trial started on Monday, a strong following of Carlson's supporters have attended in shades of purple—the deceased's favourite colour.
