Merritt woman claims razorblades included in grandson’s Halloween haul

MERRITT – Mounties in Merritt are reminding parents to check their children’s trick or treat bags after a grandmother reported finding two razorblades amongst her 11-year-old grandson’s candy Halloween night.

Const. Tracy Dunsmore with the Merritt RCMP says the grandmother reported the incident today, Nov. 2 and doesn’t have a clue what area of town the blades came from; her grandson covered a large area Saturday night.

Dunsmore notes the razorblades were not inserted into any candy, but reportedly came in a candy bag someone had prepared. Dunsmore says the blades were wrapped in wax paper.

“It’s a little bizarre,” she says adding the detachment hasn’t seen an issue with Halloween candy for a long time.

Dunsmore says the grandmother dropped the blades off at the RCMP detatchment when she reported the incident, but investigators were unable to swab them for analysis; they’d already been handled.

Meanwhile, Kamloops RCMP are investigating a report of a sewing needle found in a candy allegedly collected in the Brocklehurst neighbourhood.
