VERNON – A pickup truck driven by an elderly man slammed into the side of a Vernon business this morning.
The truck crossed two southbound lanes of traffic and smashed into White House Mortgages in the 4000 block of 27 Street around 10:55 a.m., Dec. 3, according to Vernon Fire Department Capt. Reinhard Mann.
Mann says crews arrived to find an elderly man sitting in the drivers seat and he appeared to be in medical distress.
Firefighters had to prop up the collapsing roof of the pickup with a “vehicle stabilizer” while they treated the man until B.C. Ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, he says.
Mann says the building received substantial damage.
“Two front support pillars were damaged, and the northeast wall has quite a bit of damage to it both internally and externally,” he says. “Luckily nobody else got hurt.”
RCMP are investigating.
