Open house to reveal early plans for Peachland highway

PEACHLAND – Residents of Peachland will have a chance to weigh in on the government’s tentative plan for the Highway 97 corridor running through their town.

Some residents have been asking the government to consider a new bypass which would go around, rather than through, Peachland and a task force made up of more than 800 people have started a website to keep up the pressure.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will hold an open house Tuesday, June 21, at the Peachland Community Centre where results of a six-month study revealed and feedback gathered.

A media release from the ministry says feedback gathered at the open house will help guide, identify and assess possible short, medium and long-term solutions for the busy stretch of Highway 97.

“Over the past six months, the ministry has been collecting and analysing data and meeting with local stakeholders in order to develop an up-to-date understanding of existing and future conditions on the Highway 97 corridor in Peachland and is ready to share the results with the community,” the release says.

Those who are interested are encouraged to visit the Community Centre on Sixth Street from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
