UPDATE: Teen on motorbike facing charges after ride through Kamloops high school

KAMLOOPS – The teen who rode a dirt bike through school hallways in what students are calling a grad prank is now facing charges.

Valleyview Secondary School student Logan Schindel says the guy on the bike had graduated early, so as a prank he rode through the front doors of the school, downstairs and into the school lounge where "half of the school" was gathered for lunch around 1 p.m., today, June 16. He says the biker then wheelied out the door onto the road.

Schindel says the rider was wearing a GoPro camera and several students got pictures and video of the incident.

School district Supt. Karl deBruijn calls the incident dangerous and foolhardy.

“There were near collisions with students and principal,” he says. “I don’t know what would posses someone to do that.”

No one was injured.

When RCMP attended they found tracks and skid marks leading to the location of the bike. A short time later a 17-year-old male was arrested and is now facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

“This is an example of a prank that could have gone very wrong,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release. “Fortunately no one was hurt and the suspect is only facing driving related charges and not for injuring a student or staff at the school.”

DeBruijn says he doesn’t know if the person on the motorbike was a student, adding he doesn’t want to jump to conclusions.

“Whoever it was doesn’t seem to be behaving in a very mature or adult manner.”
