At least someone’s getting a laugh over the teachers’ strike

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – It appears someone working for the provincial government's web department has added a little ironic wit—if not annoying editorial—to the rhetoric on the teachers strike.

When all hope of ending the teachers strike before Sept. 2 was lost on the weekend, the B.C. government opened up its website so parents can register to get their $40 per child per day. Talks between the B.C. Teachers’ Federation and the B.C. Public School Employers’ Association stalled Saturday as mediator Vince Ready walked away from the table, declaring the two sides still too far apart for mediation.

Parents quickly jumped online in an effort to sign up over the weekend but servers were overloaded and kicked out an error message.

“You have been temporarily locked out," it read. "Please try again later.”

Some parents on social media found humour in the wording, while others simply expressed frustration.
