Canadian women return to FIFA top 10 after win at Algarve Cup tournament
TORONTO – Canada has returned to the top 10 of the FIFA world women’s soccer rankings.
The Canadian women, winners of the Algarve Cup, moved up one spot to No. 10 in the rankings released Friday.
The top three was unchanged with the U.S. No. 1, ahead of Germany and France. England climbed one place to an all-time high at No. 4 while Australia jumped four spots to a record-high No. 5. Sweden was up two places at No. 6.
Japan, runner-up at last years World Cup, fell three spots to No. 7 after failing to secure Olympic qualification. It’s the lowest ranking for Japan since June 2009.
Brazil, North Korea and Canada rounded out the top 10. Norway fell to 11th, making room for Canada.
