Vernon’s Polson Park opens up to dogs this week

VERNON – Dogs will be allowed in Polson Park on-leash starting this week as part of a two year pilot project.

Vernon council first started looking into the idea last summer as a way to encourage more people to use the park.

The pilot project goes until the fall of 2019, and public input will be accepted online starting in late November.

The City is preparing for people bringing their dogs to the park by installing five doggie-bag dispensers and signage. In the spring, the drinking water fountain by the pavilion will be upgraded so that both people and pets can use it.

The City is reminding people to pick up after their dogs and place used doggie bags in one of the 18 garbage cans in the park. Garbage collection is twice a week in the winter months and daily in the summer.
