Town of Oliver elects councillor in by-election

OLIVER – It was a close race in Oliver as the town voted for a new councillor in a by-election Saturday.

Grower’s Supply salesperson Larry Schwartzenberger beat Mo Basso by 12 votes according to the preliminary election results.

Schwartzenberger grabbed 249 votes to Basso’s 237.

Voter turnout was low, with only 767 people casting ballots.

There were 9 candidates running in the by-election to replace Linda Larson. She was elected to represent the riding of Boundary-Similkameen for the Liberals in May’s provincial vote.

Here’s how the preliminary election results break down: Larry Schwartzenberger 249, Mo Basso 237, Rhonda Bruce 115, Bill Ross  53, Joanne Bray 38, John Micka 32, Dan Robertson  24, Jeff Ashe 12, Doug Pederson 7.
