UPDATE: Structural failure causes gas leak at Kamloops business

KAMLOOPS – A structural failure and heating unit issue caused a gas leak at a Kamloops business this morning.

At 10 a.m., Fortis B.C. was called out to Penny Pinchers for a possible gas leak, then turned the gas off in the building.

A spokesperson for Fortis B.C. says the company believes the leak was caused by the roof collapsing, as well as an issue with a heating unit.

RCMP say officers closed both lanes of Tranquille Road between 8 Street and 9 Street near Penny Pinchers this morning, Jan. 8, to both drivers and pedestrians. The road has since reopened to vehicle traffic but pedestrians are still being kept away from the building.
