Extreme weather impacts Okanagan film industry in 2017
Wild weather events resulted in the loss of several film productions in the Okanagan last year.
A report from the Okanagan Film Commission says four major productions and two high-end commercial productions were cancelled due to smoke and high water conditions in the Okanagan last year.
In spite of those losses, the Film Commission reports 2017 was still a very successful year.
Of four companies who visited the region last year to see what it had to offer, two are now in the early stages of setting up a satellite office in the Okanagan that is expected to create more than 100 local animation jobs.
Last year also saw the first phase of a soundstage completed in Kelowna which will accommodate a small television series, creating full time work and side industries.
