MONTREAL – Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair says the Conservative government is risking making its Job Grants program an issue in the Quebec election by going ahead without the province.
The New Democratic Party leader calls a decision to proceed without Quebec short-sighted, considering that Premier Pauline Marois is apparently poised to send Quebecers to the polls.
Employment Minister Jason Kenney has said he plans to have further discussions on the Canada Job Grant with Quebec Labour Minister Agnes Maltais.
Kenney announced the deal in Ottawa today.
Mulcair said after a speech to the Montreal Board of Trade it is a shame Quebec is not part of the deal.
The deal gives the provinces and territories more flexibility in how they fund the Canada Job Grant.
