Diverse range of things to do in South Okanagan this weekend

PENTICTON – From a multicultural fair to wine pairing events and card tournaments, there's a wide variety of things to do in the South Okanagan this weekend.

The sixth Annual One World Festival takes place this Saturday, Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Cultural booths and multicultural performances are part of this celebration of cultural diversity. Enjoy ethnic foods, immigrant success stories, art and entertainment at this free event.

The Four Food Chiefs Wine & Food Pairing event at Nk’Mip Cellars is on this Saturday and Sunday starting at noon. The cost is $15 for the wine and food pairing event. The event takes place at the Qwam Qwmt Tasting Gallery at Nk’Mip Cellars, 1400 Rancher Creek Rd. in Osoyoos.

B.C. Bighorn sheep biologist Craig McLean will be on hand to talk about the area’s bighorn sheep following the Bighorn Sheep movie and an Expert Osoyoos Desert Society Winter Program event at Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos on Saturday. Admission is by donation.

The Summerland Museum hosts a Bridge tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. The tournament is a fundraiser for the museum. There will be a light lunch and prizes. The cost is $15 at the Anglican Church Hall in Summerland.

The Sumac Ridge Winter Grazing food and wine event takes place Sunday at Sumac Ridge Estates Winery in Summerland. Enjoy six premium wines along with an artisan cheese and charcuterie board. The cost is $25.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
