After a hot weekend, cooler week in store for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Following an absolutely stellar Mother's Day weekend in Kamloops, residents should prepare for a week of more seasonal temperatures and the strong possibility of some showers.

The forecast still sounds pretty good when compared to other parts of the country, particularly Southern Ontario, where another dismal weather prediction is in store for residents in and around the Toronto region.

The Weather Network is forecasting cool and wet conditions “more like March” in Toronto today, May 13, with high temperatures about 10 degrees below the seasonal mark, with highs around 7 Celsius predicted for many southern Ontario cities. Southern Ontario had nine days in February that were warmer than what is forecast today, and the Weather Network says communities northwest of Toronto could actually see “flakes in the air.”

In Kamloops, Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the city's the weather for this time of year is “right on track.” He says it's not unusual to have a hot spell in May, with a return to more seasonal values and more rain in the latter part of the month.

Any rain that falls will provide some much needed moisture as the region heads into wildfire season, Lundquist says.

Clinton, Penticton and Summerland set high temperature records on Saturday, May 11, with Clinton reaching 25 Celsius, beating the previous May 11 high of 22.6 C. Penticton reached 30.6 C, up from the previous high of 30.3 C, and Summerland got to 30.1 C, besting the previous high of 29.4 C.

Kamloops should see mainly sunny conditions today, with increasing cloudiness this afternoon, and a 30 per cent chance this evening. Winds are expected to be southwest at 30 km/h this afternoon with a high of 26 C and a low of 11 C.

The forecast calls for mainly cloudy skies tomorrow with a 40 per cent chance of showers and southeast winds expected at 30 km/h along with a high of 20 C and an overnight low of 11 C.

On Wednesday, expect a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 22 C and an overnight low of 11 C.

Cloudy conditions are expected to continue on Thursday with a high of 22 C and a low of 9 C.

The forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of showers on both Friday and Saturday, with a high of 23 C on Friday and 20 C on Saturday.

The normal high and low for Kamloops this time of year is 21 C and 8 C.
