KELOWNA – The B.C. Coroners Service has identified the woman killed in a crash between a semi and an SUV on Highway 97 north of the Kelowna Airport Sunday afternoon.
She was Frances Marie Strocher, 48, of Kelowna.
Const. Kris Clark of the Kelowna RCMP says Strocher was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan and was the only occupant when she crossed two lanes of traffic in the moment before the crash.
“The force of the collision disintegrated the front end of the Volkswagen and caused extensive damages to the commercial truck,” he says in a release sent Monday. “Tragically, the female driver of the Volkswagen suffered extensive traumatic injuries and died in the crash.”
The two occupants of the commercial truck both suffered minor injuries.
Strocher's family have been notified of her death.
Kelowna RCMP Traffic Services are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service in the investigation.
