Midweek snow expected in the Okanagan

The Okanagan could see some snow this week with temperatures forecast to remain steady around the freezing mark.

Environment Canada says to expect a mix of sun and cloud today, Dec. 9, with winds to 15 km /h, a high to -1 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, and a high of 1 C in Penticton.

A few clouds this evening will give way to increasing cloudiness after midnight with a low to -6 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and -4 C in Penticton.

A cloudy Tuesday morning should clear to a mix of sun and cloud near noon with a high of -1 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and 2 C in Penticton. There is a 60 per cent chance of flurries overnight under cloudy skies along with a low of -6 C.

Cloudy skies are expected Wednesday with a high of 0 C. Periods of snow are expected to begin overnight with a low of -4 C.

The snow is expected to continue into Thursday with a high of 0 C and an overnight low to -2 C.

Friday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 2 C, followed by cloudy skies overnight and a 60 per cent chance of flurries with a low to -2 C.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be cloudy with a high of 1 C on Saturday and a high of 0 C on Sunday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of -1 C and lows of -7 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
