iN PHOTOS: Fresh snowfall greets Kamloops residents Friday morning
Kamloops is a winter wonderland thanks to the fresh snow that fell overnight although drivers trying to navigate city streets might not agree with that description.
A special weather statement warning of the approaching winter storm was issued by Environment Canada for the Kamloops and Okanagan regions yesterday, Jan. 2.
Around 9 p.m. yesterday, Kamloops RCMP issued a public service announcement asking motorists to drive only if necessary and remain off roads until they were plowed.
“Kamloops RCMP are warning people that there are numerous traffic incidents all over then city,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Victor Steinhammer said.
The amount of snow varied in different parts of the city. The weather statement initially said local areas would see up to two to four centimetres of snow accumulation while higher terrain would see up to five centimetres.
Here are some photos and videos captured by residents across Kamloops.

In rain, fog, & snow, remember to turn on your headlights + tail lights so others on the road can see you. #ShiftintoWinter pic.twitter.com/2azvCdFbHv

It's a great morning to stay home until the streets have been improved for safer travel. If you have to go out, grow & use some common sense and drive for the conditions. "Use some common sense!" – apparently I've returned from vacation but not from dreamland! #Kamloops pic.twitter.com/57v09NON2g

Stuck in #Kamloops the hill heading west is blocked with spun out trucks. I wonder if I’ll get home this year pic.twitter.com/m4IMPhA3ut
