Expect Okanagan heat wave to continue into mid week

Following a sweltering weekend in the Okanagan, temperatures are expected to begin easing slightly today, with a possibility of showers by the end of the week.

The next three days should continue to be sunny and hot, however, as a heat warning continues to be in effect today for the Okanagan.

Environment Canada says it should be sunny this morning before a mix of sun and cloud early in the afternoon along with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm.

Winds should become southwest at 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon, with a high of 35 C and a low of 16 C expected.

There’s a 30 per cent risk of showers overnight tonight along with a thunderstorm risk as well.

Tuesday should see more sun and a high of 34 C, with southwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the late afternoon.

A low of 15 C is expected Tuesday.

Wednesday’s high should reach 32 C, again under sunny skies.

Clouds are expected to begin rolling in on Thursday with an expected high of 26 C, followed by an overnight low of 15 C.

Showers are expected Friday, along with a high of 22 C. There is a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight with a low of 15 C.

The weekend is looking seasonal at this point, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs of 26 C and 27 C for Saturday and Sunday.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
