Kamloops’ weekend forecast: Fine late summer weather in store

Kamloops residents can look forward to an extension of summer over the next week with sunshine-soaked temperatures several degrees above seasonal norms, and no rain in the forecast.

That’s in sharp contrast to a forecast by The Weather Network, which says an amplified jet stream caused by Typhoon Maysak in Korea and northeastern China is expected to create a cross-polar air flow that will bring some unseasonably chilly temperatures to the eastern prairies and Ontario by next week.

That amplified jet stream is also creating a high pressure system off the British Columbia coast which is expected to bring Kamloops some great late summer weather.

Environment Canada says today, Sept. 3, should be sunny with winds becoming east at 20 km/h.

Today’s high should reach 30 Celsius with a low down to 15 C.

More sun is expected Friday through Sunday, with highs of 33 C on Friday and Saturday, and 32 C on Sunday.

Overnight lows of 14 C on Friday night, 15 C on Saturday night and 17 C on Sunday night are anticipated.

The sunny skies continue into next week with highs of 25 C and 28 C expected Monday and Tuesday respectively.

More sunshine is expected Wednesday with the daytime high back to 30 C.

Normal temperatures in Kamloops at this time of year are highs of 25 C and lows of 10 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
