KELOWNA – The source of oily water reported in Wilson Creek Monday morning has yet to be determined by the Kelowna fire department's Hazardous Materials team.
HAZMAT was told of the event, described as a possible oil spill, shortly after 10:30 a.m. A culvert pipe thought to be connected to storm drains is being investigated as a possible source for the spill. Tests for hydrocarbons were conducted on site and were negative, meaning the material isn't petroleum based.
The creek flows into Okanagan Lake and booms are in place to contain the spill. The Ministry of the Environment has been called to help assess the situation.
More to come.
