A Peachland couple was heading home from Kelowna when emergency crews told him he had to turn around and evacuate because of the Drought Hill wildfire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but was likely started by a truck towing a trailer that caught fire on the highway.

Some might assume someone famous is going to buy these mansions, but it’s usually someone whose wealth has a less glamorous origin.

Highway 97 and Highway 97C are closed in both directions in the area.

Over the next 24 to 48 hours smoke in South Thompson is expected to affect Kamloops, Ashcroft and Cache Creek.
