Kelowna father arrested for impaired driving at Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal

West Vancouver police had to call the Ministry of Children and Families to help some pre-teen boys after their Kelowna father was arrested for impaired driving at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal on Sunday.

There were several complaints to police about a suspected impaired driver in a Dodge Ram 1500 driving erratically on Highway 1 around 11 a.m., Nov. 2, according to a press release from the BC Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol officers found the truck pulling up to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal in West Vancouver.

The 55-year-old Kelowna man was arrested for impaired driving and prohibited driving with help from West Vancouver officers.

The man had his pre-teen boys in the truck with him, and West Vancouver officers fed the boys and contacted the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development who stepped in to help.

“Highway safety is a community effort. People called 911 to guide us to the vehicle, and we worked with our policing partners to end this safely,” BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said in the release.

“It’s a sad situation, especially when children are involved, but it’s important that people see their police agencies working well together.”

The driver is facing criminal charges, but police said he hasn’t been formally charged yet.
